TOP 5 PLACES TO EAT IN THE NORTH SHORE OF CHICAGO
Now that we've been living in Highland Park for two years, we love supporting local businesses. From time to time we try different cafes, coffee shops, restaurants and here is a list of our top 5 favs. What is interesting to note is that there have been a couple of cafes and restaurants we've tried that were well rated on google and honestly we found were not that great. I won't rate those in this post but I will share what we love.
A must for burgers and fries in Lake Forest! Their burgers are soooo tasty it is unbelievable. Their fries remain nice and crisp even on a half hour car ride. They also offer great tasting ice cream. Make sure to check their hours as they aren't open often. Any cons? Sometimes the youngins at the pay counter are not completely on their game but we can deal with that anytime.
2. Town and Oak
Want to grab a great late and something to eat? This lovely cafe in Winnetka is always packed and a favorite with the locals. The owner, a chef, is passionate about food and that says it all when ordering off their menu. Our fav? A BLT Tartine.
3. Hometown Coffee & Juice
I never have to time stop and eat on site but this place does a fantastic job with takeout. Their smoothies are the best and the avocado toast is spot on. Again, this cafe is always packed and located in the heart of downtown Glencoe. Their takeout process has always run smooth and easy.
4. Sweet's
Looking for great ice cream or chocolate to purchase? Every time we visit Sweet's we always order a sundae and boy do they have their chocolate spot on. They like to top their ice cream with a turtle shaped chocolate, a fav with the children. We love visiting this place in the evening and taking a stroll around downtown Lake Forest.
From time to time you must have a good pizza place up your sleeve and Lefty's would be it. Their pizza is absolutely delicious. We always order a thin crust pepperoni large pizza and Lefty's always gets it right. A side note, try not to order extra. Reheating their pizza does not do that well and looses its taste.
